On the occasion of the International White Cane Day, which is celebrated tomorrow, October 15, prefect Zlatko Komadina and Mr. Emil Mandarić, President of the Association of the Blind PGKC, signed an agreement on lending relief depictions of the castles of CTR The Routes of the Frankopans in the Multimedia Hall of Nova Kraljevica Castle.
Namely, the UP2DATE Center and the Association of the Blind of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, made relief depictions of five famous sites (Grobnik Castle, Trsat Castle, Castle in Bakar, Old Town of the Zrinskis and Nova Kraljevica Castle in Kraljevica) and tactile postcards with the coat of arms of the Frankopan family.
It is precisely these relief depictions that the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County will receive for use in the Interpretation Centres of the Cultural-Tourist Route The Routes of the Frankopans. Thanks to relief depictions, visually impaired people can experience the appearance of the sights they visit, experience floor plans, shapes, facades, domes, towers, understand the relationships between the displayed elements, which is not otherwise available due to the size of the site or object.
The total value of this set of six tactile relief representations of the castle is 21.600,00 HRK.
In order to make the Cultural-Tourist Route The Routes of the Frankopans even more open to blind and partially sighted people, the County has produced brochures in Braille with the text of the interpretation of each of the eight Interpretation Centres. Visually impaired people can listen to audio recordings of Frankopan-themed picture books when visiting the centres, and in each centre there is a manual magnifying glass for the visually impaired.
Also, PGKC organized the training for Frankopan interpreters to work with the visually impaired. Interpreters learned how to describe views and landscapes and bring verbal presentation closer to blind and partially sighted people.
With this approach to cultural heritage, we additionally sensitize the public, we learn, and we include blind and partially sighted people in the regular life of the community. The Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is proud to have made its rich Frankopan heritage more accessible to blind and partially sighted residents, as well as guests.
