And in doing so, by using the natural resources of Gorski Kotar, one by one, they also made the many mistakes which to this day are characteristics of modern man. Mother nature quickly let them know where their boundaries were with torrents and floods. For those, however, who respected her, nature treated them well and revealed her medicinal side. The Frankopan and Zrinski families were well acquainted with medicinal plants, especially the female members. Home medicine cabinets were well equipped with accessories for healing and numerous remedies, particularly those made from medicinal plants. The advice of herbalists was highly valued. Books with medicinal remedies, herbariums and books about plants could be found in libraries. At the same time, serfs working in the forests and hunting grounds gained the knowledge which today we call folk medicine.
