Book Night is held on the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day (April 23) and Croatian Book Day (April 22), and this year it is celebrated from April 22 to 25, 2022. In celebration of the Book Night 2022 as many as six Frankopan locations where interpretation centres are located were included – Bribir, Brod na Kupi, Čabar, Bakar, Grobnik and Kraljevica. The designed programs are based on thematic Frankopan picture books for each of the above locations, and there are also collaborations with the local community – libraries, kindergartens and primary schools that participate in the program.
The edition of picture books of The Routes of the Frankopans includes eight picture books, each of which is related to one of the locations of interpretation centres and to Frankopan castles in Krk, Bribir, Bakar, Kraljevica, Grobnik, Trsat, Čabar and Brod na Kupi. The picture books contain completely new texts based on the historical facts and traditions of each region. The texts of the picture books are signed by Velid Đekić, and the illustrations by Margareta Peršić.
Book Night in Turan Tower and Interpretation Centre Bribir was marked by reading the picture book “The Girls from Bribir”, singing the anthem “Tower of the Old Frankopans” and searching for treasure in Turan Tower, and the program included Kindergarten “Cvrčak i mrav” Tribalj (Bribir branch) and Margareta Peršić, author of illustrations of Frankopan picture books. The program was held on April 22, 2022, organized by the Tourist Board of Vinodol Municipality.
In the Zrinski Castle in Brod na Kupi, a program called “A Band of Dormice in the Zrinski Castle” took place, which included reading of the picture book “A Band of Dormice” and an educational workshop for children “In the company of Dormice”. Entrance to the Castle was free with the possibility of visiting the permanent exhibition “Wildlife with Sea View”, the Brod na Kupi Interpretation Centre and the exhibition “Croatian Snakes”. You could also relax by socializing in the Castle Living Room with independent reading of picture books and other books or artistic expression with music and the sounds of nature. The program was held on April 23, 2022, organized by the Natural History Museum Rijeka.
Zrinski Castle in Čabar offered a program that took place in two terms – April 22, 2022 and April 25, 2022. During the program Zrinski Castle had its doors open to all visitors, and in the National Library “Ivan Žagar” was presented picture book “The Miners from Čabar”. The program was organized by the City of Čabar, and was intended for children of preschool and school age and other interested visitors.
The Frankopan Castle in Bakar joined the Book Night with a program based on reading the picture books “A Journey on a Bakar Sailing Ship” and “Kamenčići od suza”. The program was held on April 22, 2022 in the Interpretation Centre Bakar, organized by the Tourist Board of the City of Bakar, and the program was attended by the Elementary School Bakar and the Society “Naša djeca” Bakar.
On April 22, 2022, the Grobnik Castle and the Grobnik Interpretation Centre hosted “A Grobnik Watermill” workshop based on the picture book of the same name in cooperation with the “Čavlić” Kindergarten. The program was intended for preschool children who, through reading and interpreting and artistic expression, expressed their impressions of the picture book “A Grobnik Watermill”, and all together made a model of the Grobnik Watermill. The program was organized by the Municipality of Čavle, ie the Multimedia Center Grobnik.
Nova Kraljevica Castle also took part in the Book Night with the program “Read to me in Frankopan”. Due to bad weather, the program was held on April 22, 2022 from the planned Frankopan Castle in the premises of the Orepčići Kindergarten. In collaboration with the National Library and Reading Room Kraljevica, an interpretive reading of the picture book “The Wilful Wand” related to the Nova Kraljevica Castle was held. The program was intended for the participants of the Kindergarten “Orepčići” from Kraljevica, who were happy and interested to get acquainted with the Frankopan story related to their city. The activity was organized by the Cultural-Tourist Route The Routes of the Frankopans, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and the Natural History Museum Rijeka.
As part of this year’s Days of Trsat and Book Night on April 23, 2022, the City Library of Rijeka – Trsat Branch hosted a storytelling and creative workshop “The Treasure of Trsat” intended for children aged 8 to 12. The workshop and storytelling, which consisted of a narrative part, introductory games and a two-hour art part, was led by Margareta Peršić. Through play and fun, creativity and learning were encouraged, and wonderful children’s works made of clay were created – the Trsat key, the dragon and the castle!
